AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. 28ha of old bushvines grow in the Siebritskloof part of the Paardeberg mountain.
The property is owned by the baie dynamic and good looking cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst since 2007. Their grandfather was the farm manager of Groot Constantia for 46 years. Their fathers were born there and farmed togheter in Constantia, during the days when people still ate fresh vegetables and Hanepoot grapes, drank Cinsault and there were a lot less traffic lights and hippies still had a precense. Together these two have restored a neglected cellar on the farm that was last used in teh 1930's to make natural wines in the traditional manner.
On Kalmoesfontein it is back to basics, usiing traditional winemaking equipment and old cement kuipe. 'We make wines with immense character. We're using what we can afford. We are making theh best wines we can. And we are having great experiences. I want to make something, involving interaction from my family.

We are an Estate with a rich heritage and have been producing world-class wines for over a hundred years. We are the oldest red wine only producer in South Africa and are also one of the few wine estates to have only had five winemakers in our century old history — with two being a father and son duo.
Our portfolio of wines is small and curated, our winemaker Bertho van der Westhuizen treats each wine as he would our flagship blend. From our Iconic Alto Rouge to our exceptional Alto Estate Blend, our wines ensure quality and consistency throughout.

Here, winemaking is deeply rooted in the soil and rhythms of nature, giving rise to exceptional cool-climate wines that echo the harmonious dialogue between earth and sky. Each vintage is a unique creation of character and depth, flowing from the valley’s ecosystems and rhythms.
Nestled in the Schapenberg hills overlooking False Bay, Journey's End is the southernmost vineyard in the Stellenbosch region. The Gabb family fell in love with this picturesque wine farm in 1995 and lovingly restored it, now home to 40 hectares of thriving vineyards. Planted in 350-million-year-old decomposed granite soils—among the most prestigious terroirs in South Africa—our vines benefit from cooling sea breezes and the cleansing ‘Cape Doctor’ wind from the nearby Atlantic Ocean.
At Journey’s End, sustainability and social responsibility are at the heart of everything we do. One of the first South African wineries to receive B-Corp certification in 2025, we are also WIETA and IPW accredited, fully Fairtrade certified since 2017, and powered by solar energy since 2014. Recognised for our efforts, we’ve received multiple awards, including the Ethical Company and Water Management awards at The Drinks Business Green Awards, and the Social Impact award at the 2022 Footprint Drinks Sustainability Awards. Our WWF Conservation Champion status, awarded in 2021, reflects our ongoing dedication to protecting native biodiversity. Through the Journey’s End Foundation, we’ve delivered over 6 million meals to our local community.
We believe in drinking well, while truly being a force for good.
