About Beaujolais wines
Located between Lyon to the south, Pays Mâconnais to the north and bordered by the Saône River to the east, the Beaujolais region spans the Rhône and Saône-et-Loire départements. The Beaujolais vineyards stretch out over 13,000 hectares of vines claimed in 12 Beaujolais appellations where over 2000 wine estates and négociants, and 9 wine cooperatives. The 12 Beaujolais appellations stand out thanks to the expression of their wines whether festive, expressive or exceptional. 100% red Beaujolais crus are located in the northern half: Brouilly, Chénas, Chiroubles, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie, Juliénas, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, Saint-Amour. The Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages, to the south and encircling the crus can be either red, white, rosé or Nouveaux.
Halfway between Paris and Beaune, Chablis opens the golden gate to the vineyards of Burgundy. La Chablisienne alone represents almost 25% of the vineyard and can offer all Chablis appellations (Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru, Chablis Grand Cru). The Chablis cooperative winery, La Chablisienne, created in 1923, brings together nearly 300 wine growers to make the great white wines of Chablis. These reflect the extreme care brought by its winegrowers to the cultivation of their vineyards combined with the passion of their winemakers. It is the subtle relationship between winegrowers and winemakers that gives its wines this much sought after distinction. Each year, it produces approximately thirty different wines, each with a strong personality of its own, across the appellation: five Grands Crus, eleven Premiers Crus, Chablis and Petit Chablis. Among its Grands Crus is the Château Grenouilles, the most prestigious of all, from the unique Château of the hill of Grands Crus.
First viticultural region in France in area (245 000 hectares) and in volume (12.9 million hectoliters), the vineyards of Occitanie represent one-third of total French production and 5.7% of world production. Occitanie region covers Pays d’Oc, Roussillon and Languedoc vineyards as well as the right bank of the southern part of Rhône Valley and South-West vineyards.
Pioneering, visionary and modern in all that he does, Silvio Denz likes to repeat that he is first and foremost in the business of selling emotions.
After following a career in finance and then in the family perfume company he founded the perfume company Art & Fragrance in 2000 (renamed Lalique Group in 2016). In 2005 he acquired Chateaux Peby Faugères, Faugères, promoted to Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés in 2012 and Cap de Faugères (Castillon - Côtes de Bordeaux). He purchased the prestigious French crystal company LALIQUE in 2008.
On the right bank of Bordeaux wine region, it is from the terrace of the Faugères ‘cathedral cellar’ that you can truly grasp the full expanse and nuances of Vignobles Silvio Denz. From this headland, there is a perfect view of the grand triangle of vines form by these three vineyards. To the east, the Merlot of Péby Faugères rubs shoulders with the Faugères plots where Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon mingle with Merlot, whilst the vines of Cap de Faugères cover 18 hectares further south.
Last addition to Vignobles Silvio Denz’ collection, on the left bank, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey vineyards lie at the heart of the appellation, overlooking the village of Bommes. This 1er Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Sauternes is blessed with exceptional vines, which are planted on Quaternary gravel soils deposited on an Aquitanian limestone substrate over 600,000 years ago. It is no surprise that Lafaurie-Peyraguey wine appears in second place on the list of Sauternes Premiers Grands Crus Classés drawn up as part of the 1855 classification. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the estate, the businessman has developed a luxury hotel concept based on a synergy between LALIQUE crystal and the vineyard – a marriage of savoir-faire and French savoir-vivre.
